Mike McGarry Steps Down as GSU Women’s Golf Head Coach

8/4/2025 12:00:00 PM

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Mike McGarry has stepped down from Head Coach of the GSU Women's Golf team to take the same position at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, the GSU Athletic Department has announced.

McGarry, who spent six seasons as Head Coach of the Pioneers, helped resurrect the program after it was put on hold from 2015-2019. During his six-year run, McGarry led GSU to three-straight MEC Championships and coached 20 all-conference performers, including 11 All-MEC First Team selections, as well as two MEC Freshman of the Year (Kendall Wall & Kerri-Anne Cook) and two MEC Player of the Year winners (Hailey Hendershott & Kerri-Anne Cook). McGarry was also named MEC Coach of the Year in 2023.

The ascension was also seen on the regional stage as GSU finished 14th at the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional in 2023, 9th in 2024 and 8th in 2025.

"What Coach McGarry accomplished here with the resurrection of the Women's Golf program is truly remarkable. He brought in talent and created a large and competitive roster," said Director of Athletics Jesse Skiles. "The three consecutive MEC Championships have been historic for our department and put Glenville on the map of the landscape of Women's Golf. We wish him the very best in this next chapter of his life at UAB."

A national search has begun for the next Glenville State Women's Golf Head Coach.
