Two Goals Not Enough in Pioneers Loss at Ursuline

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Women's Soccer team battled hard on the road Wednesday night but came up just short in a 5-2 setback at Ursuline. The Pioneers put together a strong second half push with goals from Solares Solano and Natalia Bernal, but couldn't quite overcome the Arrows' early lead. Glenville now sits at (0-2) on the season as they wrap up their non-conference slate.

1st Half
Ursuline struck first with a pair of goals midway through the half before adding a third just minutes later to go into the break up 3-0. The Pioneers had their chances, putting four shots on frame but couldn't find the back of the net in the opening period.

2nd Half
Glenville came out of the locker room with renewed energy and quickly shifted the momentum. Solares Solano opened the scoring for the Pioneers in the 53rd minute to cut into the deficit, followed by Natalia Bernal's strike in the 66th minute to bring the score to 4-2. Despite the surge, Ursuline answered with a late goal in the 76th minute to put the match out of reach.

Final Stats
Ursuline
The Arrows finished with 18 shots, including 13 on target, and held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. Four different players found the net for Ursuline.

Glenville State
The Pioneers tallied 10 shots with five on goal, capitalizing twice in the second half. Solano and Bernal each notched their first goals of the season, while goalkeepers Lucia Lopez (six saves) and Anjolie Colon (two saves) produced eight team saves for the Pioneers.

Up Next For The Pioneers
Glenville State turns its attention to Mountain East Conference play, traveling to West Virginia State on Sunday (Sept. 14) for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff at Dickerson Stadium.
