GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Women's Soccer team came up just short in their home opener Sunday (Sept. 21) night, falling 1-0 to the University of Charleston at Morris Stadium. The Pioneers created plenty of chances with 13 shots, including six in the second half, but could not find the equalizer. With the result, Glenville moves to (0-5-0, 0-3-0 MEC) while Charleston improves to (2-3-0, 2-1-0 MEC).
1st Half
Charleston broke through in the 14th minute when Jamie Bland converted off a corner kick from Ciara Casamento, giving the Golden Eagles the only goal of the night. The Pioneers answered with seven first-half shots, forcing UC's keeper into a pair of saves, but trailed 1-0 at the break.
2nd Half
Glenville carried much of the play after halftime, adding six more shots and two corner kicks. Despite losing Maddalena Gallon to an injury in the second half, the Pioneers continued to push forward and limit Charleston's opportunities. Goalkeeper Lucia Lopez recorded three saves to keep the match within reach, but UC's back line held firm to preserve the 1-0 result.
