GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Women's Soccer team finally broke through Wednesday night, delivering its first win of the 2025 season in emphatic fashion with a 3-0 shutout over West Virginia Wesleyan at Morris Stadium. The Pioneers (1-5, 1-3 MEC) were fueled by a brace from Valentina Quiroz and a jaw-dropping second-half wonder goal from Margaux Fernandez to ignite the home crowd and secure their first conference points of the year.
1st Half
The Pioneers wasted no time grabbing control. In the 7th minute, Quiroz opened the scoring off a smooth build-up from Lauren Schwartz and Sofia Jalaksova. That early breakthrough set the tone, and Glenville's defense matched the energy, with Lucia Lopez coming up big to turn away multiple Bobcat chances. GSU entered halftime up 1-0 and brimming with confidence.
2nd Half
Momentum carried into the second half as Quiroz struck again in the 61st minute, finishing a perfect feed from Aitana Viejo to double the lead. Just ten minutes later, the night's exclamation point arrived — Fernandez unleashed a wonder goal from distance, a highlight-reel strike that left no doubt and brought the Morris Stadium crowd to its feet. With a 3-0 cushion, Glenville shut the door, riding Lopez's seven total saves to their first clean sheet of the season.
