Volleyball Falls at California (Pa.)

CALIFORNIA, Pa. - Glenville State Volleyball fell on the road in a non-conference matchup against California (Pa.) last night in straight sets to wrap up the early portion of their non-conference slate.

In the first set, GSU held multiple leads at 11-10, 16-14, and 21-18 after a Cali Queen kill, however the Vulcans would go on a run and pull away in the opening stanza, winning 25-23. In set two, the Pioneers would find themselves trailing early, but a kill from Deniz Selen Yazar cut the Cal lead to three at 9-6. The blue and white were unable to get any closer, falling in set two, 25-18. Glenville State held an early 4-1 lead in the third set after an Ava O'Hare service ace, but the Vulcans built a lead and didn't relinquish it, downing the Pioneers 25-17 in the third set and winning the match, 3-0.

Elisa Rugiero led the team with 11 kills while Sarah Stephenson and Olivia Weiseman both had nine. Adrianna Favata led the team with 16 assists and Morgan Johnson pitched in with 14. Defensively, Lindsey Scammell had seven blocks and Weiseman led the team with 14 digs.

Glenville State
Rita Kelly, Greta Petofi and Kaiya Lian all had seven kills to lead the team on offense while Irmak Bezek had 17 assists to pace the Pioneers with Elitsa Peneva chipping in nine. Defensively, Kelly and Deniz Selen Yazar had two blocks while Queen had 10 digs and Ava O'Hare had nine.
