Pioneers Sweep Senators to Notch First Conference Win of 2025

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Volleyball team defeated Davis & Elkins, 3-0, in the Waco Center on Tuesday (Sept. 30) night in a Mountain East Conference matchup to secure their first league win of the 2025 season.

Both teams were trading points early, however the Pioneers would establish a lead at 11-7, and continued to build their advantage throughout, forcing a Senator timeout at 18-12. The Pioneers held on to win the first set, 25-20. In the second set, the teams would again go back-and-forth, but GSU built a 9-5 lead, forcing another D&E timeout. The visitors would cut into the deficit but could not find themselves with the advantage as the Pioneers ended up taking set two, 25-17. In the third and final set, the Pioneers would control it from the beginning, racing out to a 8-3 lead before a D&E timeout. After the timeout, the Pioneers continued to build on their lead, running the score up to 13-5 to force another visitor timeout. The Senators tallied points near the end but it was the Pioneers taking the final stanza, 25-15, and the match, 3-0.

Ozsar Melisa led the Senators with seven kills while Neve Norris chipped in six and Keira Robinson had 19 assists. On defense, Norris led the team with 10 digs and Braelyn Brenneman had three blocks.

Glenville State
Deniz Selen Yazar led the offense with nine kills with Keleigh Chrisman and Cali Queen adding eight and Mikayla Curry notching six. Sadie Hill had 22 assists to lead both teams as well. Queen's 17 digs was atop the team leaderboard while Ava O'Hare had 16 and Curry had four blocks.

Up Next For The Pioneers
The Pioneers hit the road on Friday (Oct. 3) to take on West Virginia Wesleyan for a 7 p.m. start.
