MARS HILL, N.C. – The Glenville State Women's Soccer team dropped their 2025 season opener earlier today at Mars Hill, 1-0. The Pioneers outshot the Mountain Lions, 17-7, while also notching more shots on goal.
1st Half
It didn't take long for GSU to show their aggressiveness as
Aitana Viejo had the game's first shot on goal at the 1:50 mark. The Mountain Lions made
Lucia Lopez work for her first save just minutes later. Both squads put shots on goal in the first half but neither could muster anything past the goal keepers, making it 0-0 as the two teams went into the locker room.
2nd Half
Freshman
Solares Solano had three-consecutive shots near the goal but couldn't convert for the Pioneers. Just a few moments later, the Mountain Lions notched the lone goal of the game with Saga Karlsson Rowa finding the back of the net. From there, Glenville State couldn't tie things up and Mars Hill would walk away with the early season win, 1-0.

Saga Karlsson Rowa was the difference today with her goal while Samantha Swinson had the assist. Five different Mountain Lions recorded a shot on goal in the victory. In addition, Peyton Pierson notched seven saves.
Glenville State
Solares Solana had three shots on goal while
Martina Roig had two in the defeat.
Lucia Lopez recorded four saves at the net.
