GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneer Women's Basketball team remained undefeated at home and took hold of first place in the Mountain East Conference with a win over West Virginia Wesleyan, 95-84, earlier today (Jan. 10) inside the Waco Center. GSU is now (11-2) overall and (6-1) in league play.
1st Half
Khalia Bryant started the scoring with a layup but the Bobcats would respond with a couple of three pointers to take the lead. GSU climbed back with scores from Carine Pinkney, Ashlyn Riley, and Jayda Allie, ending the quarter with a five-point spurt to have the lead after one quarter, 24-22. In the second stanza, Glenville State would build a lead behind Riley's nine points and scores from Nwando Okigbo and Payton James. The halftime lead grew to be 11 in favor of the blue and white, 51-40.
2nd Half
In the third quarter of play, Wesleyan cut into the lead with their defense only allowing 19 points and the offense totaling 23. The Bobcats would connect on a few shots from deep to keep the pressure on the Lady Pioneers but Wonder Nkoyock scored five third quarter points to ensure the home team still had the lead heading to the final ten minutes, 70-63. In the fourth, Riley's big night continued with another shot from beyond the arc to kickstart the fourth. Keanti Thompson cashed in with a layup, and a free throw from Stevi Yancy sealed the victory, 95-84.
Final Stats
West Virginia Wesleyan
Emma Witt had 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the team while Kilah Dandridge and Allie Daniels both had 16. Ana Young had 12 points, and Sydney Baird had ten points to go along with seven boards.
Glenville State
Sophomore guard Ashlyn Riley recorded 25 points on 11-for-15 shooting, including 2-for-4 from three-point range while also pulling down four rebounds. Salem import Carine Pinkney had 18 points, four rebounds and three assists as Wonder Nkoyock had 12 points, Jayda Allie had 11 and Khalia Bryant had ten points and four rebounds. Nwando Okigbo led the team in rebounding with six in the victory.

Glenville State's next contest will be Wednesday (Jan. 14) when they travel to West Liberty to take on the Hilltoppers. Tip is set for 5:30 from the ASRC.
