Lady Pioneers Log 25-Point Road Win at Davis & Elkins

ELKINS, W.Va. - The Glenville State Lady Pioneer Women's Basketball team continued their winning streak with a comfortable victory over the Davis & Elkins Senators in Elkins on Wednesday (Jan. 7) night, 88-63. The Lady Pioneers have now won seven in a row and are (10-2, 5-1 MEC) on the year. 

1st Half
Early in the first quarter, the game would be tied at seven after a Jayda Allie layup, and scores from Carine Pinkney, Nwando Okigbo and Ashlyn Riley would close the first quarter with the score at 26-13, Lady Pioneers. In the second stanza, the lead would swell to 17 as Glenville State started the period off on a 6-0 run, but the Senators battled back to keep the lead under 20 going into the locker room.

2nd Half
Ashlyn Riley connected on a three to start quarter number three. Scores from Nylah Davis and Khalia Bryant expanded the lead at 20 heading into the final quarter of play. In the fourth, Glenville State would not let Davis & Elkins back into the game as they extended the lead even further and would close it out with Kenati Thompson, JayCee Elzy and Vanessa Nankwenya all recording scores as the final score read 88-63 inside the McDonnell Center

Final Stats
Davis & Elkins
Briyanna Sapp led the team in scoring with 20 points on 8-11 shooting from the free throw line. The Senators had two other double figure scorers, both with 11 points each, in Kaitlyn Parker and Kylie Morris. Morris also led the team in rebounding with six.

Glenville State
Sophomore guard Ashlyn Riley led the team in scoring with 16 shooting on 6-7 from the floor and 3-4 from beyond the arc while also pulling down five rebounds. Marshall import Jayda Allie knocked down a couple of threes as well and recorded 15 points. Carine Pinkney had 14 points and two steals and forward Khalia Bryant notched 13 points and 14 rebounds to lead the team on the glass.

Up Next For The Pioneers
Glenville State will return home to host West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday (Jan. 10) for a clash between the league's top two teams. Tip is set for 2 p.m.
