GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Wrestling will welcome Fairmont State and the nation's sixth-ranked team, Tiffin, to the Parkersburg High School Fieldhouse on Friday (Jan. 16) for a tri-meet.
The Pioneers are coming off of a big weekend at the Virginia Duals in Hampton, as GSU went (4-0) over the two-day stretch. The blue and white picked up victories over Johns Hopkins, Averett, Frostburg State and Findlay, where GSU used a pair of wins by
Nick Johnson and
Colby Whitehill to take down Findlay in the championship match.
This Friday presents another test for Cottrell's Pioneers, as it's a chance for GSU grapplers to better their seeding for the January 31
st MEC Championship in Glenville with their bout against conference foe and rival, Fairmont State. "In the Fairmont match, it's (about) getting wins and securing good seeds for the MEC Tournament," said Coach Cottrell on the Pioneer Coaches Show.
Tiffin is coming off of a grueling NWCA National Duals, but the sixth-ranked Dragons have not been afraid of competition. Of the seven duals they've competed in, Tiffin has faced five nationally ranked opponents, including two top 10 teams in Nebraska-Kearney (#2) and Ashland (#9). The Pioneers will make their sixth nationally ranked opponent and third top 10 dual, setting up for a great evening of wrestling inside the Parkersburg High School Fieldhouse.
The action will begin at 5 p.m. on the campus of PHS.
