ATHENS, W.Va. - The Glenville State Men's Basketball team put together one of its most complete offensive performances of the season Friday (Jan. 23) night, erupting for 64 second-half points to pull away from Concord in a 112–100 Mountain East Conference win at the Carter Center. With the victory, the Pioneers moved to (11-7) overall and (6-5) in the MEC.
The Pioneers followed up Wednesday's win with another statement performance, shooting at a high clip, pushing the tempo, and overpowering Concord down the stretch. The victory marked back-to-back 30-point outings for Elijah Redfern, who once again set the tone offensively.
1st Half
The opening 20 minutes felt like a shootout waiting to happen. Concord struck early behind Micah Young, who wasted no time attacking in transition and knocking down threes. Glenville answered with balance, getting early paint touches from Prince Mosengo and steady production from Redfern, who began finding his rhythm inside and out.
Neither team was able to fully seize control. Glenville used spurts of transition offense and strong ball movement to briefly pull ahead, but Concord consistently answered, leaning on Young and Boubacar Djigo to keep pressure on the defense. Despite the Pioneers shooting efficiently and staying aggressive, Concord closed the half strong. A late basket gave the Mountain Lions a 49–48 halftime lead, setting up a second half that felt wide open.
2nd Half
The game changed quickly after the break. GSU came out aggressive, pushing the pace and turning stops into quick offense. Redfern stayed hot, scoring from all three levels, while Don Colon-Lewis and Ammar Maxwell added fuel by attacking in transition and knocking down timely shots.
As the half wore on, the Pioneers' efficiency began to separate them. Glenville shot well over 50 percent in the second half, repeatedly breaking Concord's defense with ball movement and downhill pressure. Every time Concord threatened to close the gap, Glenville responded with a run. Midway through the half, the momentum fully swung. A series of fast-break finishes and perimeter buckets stretched the lead into double digits, and the Pioneers never let it slip back into single possessions. Concord continued to score, but Glenville's offensive rhythm never slowed.
The final minutes showcased Glenville's depth and composure, as the Pioneers closed the game at the free-throw line and in transition to secure the 112–100 win.
