BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Glenville Softball team has been selected 2
nd in the Mountain East Conference South Division Preseason Coaches' Poll, the league announced today.
Defending MEC Tournament champion Charleston narrowly took the No. 1 spot in the South Division, earning 56 points and six first-place votes. The Pioneers took 54 points and four first-place votes to widely be picked in front of Davis & Elkins (40 points), West Virginia Wesleyan (30 points, one first-place vote), Concord (27 points) and West Virginia State (18 points).
Reigning MEC North Division champion Fairmont State held nine first-place votes and 49 total points to be predicted to once again win the division. West Liberty was picked behind the Falcons with 42 points and the remaining two first-place votes while Point Park (26 points), Wheeling (23 points) and Frostburg State (20 points) rounded out the poll.
Glenville State went (36-17) overall and (22-8) in league play, capturing the program's first-ever MEC South Division and MEC Regular Season title. In addition, the Pioneers had seven All-MEC selections, another most in program history, with five of them returning, including all four First Team selections. The Pioneers open the 2026 season next Saturday (Feb. 7) in the Big Region Preseason Invitational in Tennessee.
