GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Men's Basketball team controlled the tempo early, weathered a second-half push, and leaned on its dominance on the glass to secure a 93–81 Mountain East Conference victory over Davis & Elkins Wednesday (Feb. 11) night inside the Waco Center. The Pioneers led by as many as 20 in the opening half, saw the Senators trim the margin to three after the break, and answered every challenge behind a balanced scoring attack that featured six players in double figures. Glenville State is now (15-8) overall and (9-6) in league play, which puts them in a three-way tie for third place in the MEC.
1st Half
From the opening possession, Glenville looked comfortable and in command. Jalen Knott set the tone with an early jumper and three-pointer, and the Pioneers quickly established their presence inside. Prince Mosengo and Don Colon-Lewis attacked the boards relentlessly, creating extra possessions and second-chance opportunities that fueled an early run. As the half progressed, Glenville's depth began to show. Elijah Redfern ignited transition opportunities and Ammar Maxwell connected from the perimeter, while Corey Boulden and Rye Gadd provided an immediate spark off the bench with timely shot-making and energy on the glass. Behind sharp ball movement and relentless rebounding, the Pioneers stretched the lead to 20 midway through the half, firmly seizing control of the tempo.
Davis & Elkins responded with timely perimeter shooting from Noah Adamczyk and Matthew Gray, trimming the deficit late. But each time the Senators found momentum, Glenville answered. Callum Crossman energized the crowd with back-to-back dunks, and Colon-Lewis capped the half with a smooth jumper as the Pioneers carried a 52–39 lead into the locker room.
2nd Half
The Senators refused to fold. Davis & Elkins came out aggressive, pushing pace and knocking down perimeter shots to slowly chip away at the deficit. A series of transition buckets and three-pointers cut Glenville's once-comfortable lead down to just three midway through the half, turning the game into a test of composure. The response was immediate. Knott buried a momentum three. Colon-Lewis scored inside. Mosengo finished through contact. Then Boulden delivered the decisive stretch, knocking down back-to-back threes to push the margin back to double digits.
From there, Glenville reasserted control where it mattered most — on the glass. The Pioneers dominated the boards 50–31, including 19 second-chance points, repeatedly ending Davis & Elkins possessions with defensive rebounds while creating new opportunities on the offensive end. Mosengo and Colon-Lewis both recorded double-doubles in the frontcourt, anchoring the paint on both ends. Redfern orchestrated the offense, Maxwell and Gadd provided timely scoring, and the balanced attack ensured the Senators never fully regained momentum. When the final horn sounded, Glenville had secured its third-straight conference victory — not with one standout performance, but with collective execution and control in the game's decisive moments.
