GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneer Basketball team used a 14-point fourth quarter comeback to defeat Concord, 73-72, in the closing seconds on senior day and winter homecoming inside the Waco Center. GSU closed the regular season (22-5) overall and (16-4) in the MEC.
1st Half
It was a strong first quarter for the Lady Pioneers, as back-to-back buckets by
Wonder Nkoyock and a layup by
Carine Pinkney quickly made it 7-0 after tip-off. Glenville State got up by as much as 11 and ended the first stanza leading 21-12. The second quarter was a completely different story, with the Mountain Lions outscoring the Lady Pioneers 29-8 to take a 41-29 lead into the locker room.
2nd Half
Concord extended their halftime lead in the third quarter, holding off a Lady Pioneer run that trimmed CU's advantage to just three midway through the quarter. The Mountain Lions ended the stanza on a 17-6 run and were firmly in control heading into the fourth, 60-46. Glenville State's offense came alive in the final quarter, cutting the CU lead down to just five before the under-5 minute media timeout. Concord once again fought the Lady Pioneers off, going back up by eight with just over a minute left.
Consecutive layups from
Nwando Okigbo made it a four-point game with 45 seconds left, and two missed free throws put the ball back in Glenville's hands. Head coach
Emily Stoller went right back to Okigbo, who nailed another three-footer to trim the Concord lead down to just 72-70. The hounding defense of the Lady Pioneers forced a Concord turnover, which led to Coach Stoller calling a timeout. GSU put trust in sharpshooter
Jayda Allie, who delivered with a three well behind the white line to give Glenville State the lead, 73-72. CU had a final look, but missed in front of the rim as the horn sounded.

Abbie Smith led all scorers with 24 points while grabbing 12 rebounds. Former Lady Pioneer
Kenyah Stubbs scored 17 points with six rebounds and four assists as Cadence Blackburn (11 points) and Olivia Ziolkowski (10 points) were also in double figures.
Glenville State
Wonder Nkoyock had 19 points and five made three-pointers to lead GSU while
Nwando Okigbo scored 14 points and pulled down an impressive 17 rebounds.
Carine Pinkney added 10 points and
Jayda Allie scored nine, including her game-winning three with 10 seconds left.
Stevi Yancy was all over the place, putting together seven points, eight rebounds and six assists in the win.
