Jayda Allie Plays Hero as Lady Pioneers Complete 14-Point Comeback on Senior Day

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneer Basketball team used a 14-point fourth quarter comeback to defeat Concord, 73-72, in the closing seconds on senior day and winter homecoming inside the Waco Center. GSU closed the regular season (22-5) overall and (16-4) in the MEC.

1st Half
It was a strong first quarter for the Lady Pioneers, as back-to-back buckets by Wonder Nkoyock and a layup by Carine Pinkney quickly made it 7-0 after tip-off. Glenville State got up by as much as 11 and ended the first stanza leading 21-12. The second quarter was a completely different story, with the Mountain Lions outscoring the Lady Pioneers 29-8 to take a 41-29 lead into the locker room.

2nd Half
Concord extended their halftime lead in the third quarter, holding off a Lady Pioneer run that trimmed CU's advantage to just three midway through the quarter. The Mountain Lions ended the stanza on a 17-6 run and were firmly in control heading into the fourth, 60-46. Glenville State's offense came alive in the final quarter, cutting the CU lead down to just five before the under-5 minute media timeout. Concord once again fought the Lady Pioneers off, going back up by eight with just over a minute left.

Consecutive layups from Nwando Okigbo made it a four-point game with 45 seconds left, and two missed free throws put the ball back in Glenville's hands. Head coach Emily Stoller went right back to Okigbo, who nailed another three-footer to trim the Concord lead down to just 72-70. The hounding defense of the Lady Pioneers forced a Concord turnover, which led to Coach Stoller calling a timeout. GSU put trust in sharpshooter Jayda Allie, who delivered with a three well behind the white line to give Glenville State the lead, 73-72. CU had a final look, but missed in front of the rim as the horn sounded.
