BARTOW, Fla. – The Glenville State Softball team went (5-3) in their annual trip to the sunshine state for THE Spring Games, dropping the first two games on Friday (Mar. 6) before putting together five-straight wins and losing their final game of the trip to Ashland on Tuesday (Mar. 10).
Friday (Mar. 6)
GSU 1 | SW Minnesota State 9 (5 Inn.)
The Mustangs got on the Pioneers early, using a two-run RBI single in the first inning and a three-run 3
rd inning to make it 5-0. SMSU then added four runs in the fourth inning before
Zailees Seda notched a sac fly in the bottom half of the inning, however, the deficit would be too large to overcome as the Pioneers fell, 9-1, in five innings.
GSU 2 | Sioux Falls 4
Sioux Falls broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third with an RBI single but
Emma McLean quickly responded with a two-RBI double in the top of the 4
th to put GSU in front, 2-1. Sioux Falls used a big three-run sixth inning to gain the 4-2 advantage that they didn't relinquish, handing Glenville State their first two-loss day of the 2026 season.
Saturday (Mar. 7)
GSU 5 | Northwood 4
Saturday was an exciting day of softball for Glenville State, starting out with the Pioneers come from behind win versus Northwood. After NU scored first in the 3
rd inning, GSU notched three runs in the 4
th to go up 3-1, however, that lead quickly went away. A three-run error in the fifth allowed the Timberwolves to plate three runs in the inning and gain a 4-3 lead. A dropped flyball by the left fielder in the top of the 6
th gave Glenville State the lead back, 5-4, and
Kylie Burdick closed the door in the final two innings to secure the victory.
GSU 6 | Clarion 5
Emily Nolan opened the scoring for the blue and white with a two-RBI double in the first inning before Clarion tied it in the following inning and eventually took the lead in the third. Nolan then doubled once again to tie it up at 3-3. An inning later, Clarion used a two-RBI single to regain the advantage. That lasted just two innings, as an error by the Golden Eagles defense trimmed the deficit to one in the sixth. Sixth-year head coach
Sara Scoone needed a walk-off in the final inning and got just that, as
Lillian Burns tied it at five with a sac fly and
Zailees Seda doubled down the line to walk it off, 6-5.
Monday (Mar. 9)
GSU 6 | Lynn 2
Emily Nolan continued her hot trip to Florida with a 2-RBI double in the top of the first to give GSU an early lead. The next inning,
Emma McLean capitalized on a double steal to plate another run for the Pioneers. Lynn got on the board in the bottom half of the 2
nd, using a sac fly to make it 3-1. An error in the top of the 4
th allowed Glenville State to gain that run back, but Lynn scored once again in the bottom of the inning to stay close at 4-2. Glenville State pulled away with a run in the 5
th and 6
th inning, striking their third-straight victory, 6-2.
GSU 8 | California (Pa.) 2
The Pioneer offense came out firing in the Monday finale, scoring two runs in the bottom of the 1
st.
Delaney Warnick then blew it wide open in the 2
nd, blasting a grand slam to extend the advantage to 6-0.
Maci Boggess continued her strong start and the Pioneer bats kept rewarding her, plating another run in the fifth inning. CALPA finally broke the armor of Boggess, notching an RBI single in the top of the 6
th, however,
Emily Nolan belted a solo home run in the bottom half to earn the run back. The Vulcans scored in the 7
th, but it was much too late as the Pioneers won, 8-2.
Tuesday (Mar. 10)
GSU 2 | Grand Valley State 0
In what became a pitcher's battle, an error by the Grand Valley State defense broke the scoreless tie in the top of the 3
rd inning.
Emma McLean then gave the Pioneers an additional run in the inning with an RBI single, capitalizing on the GVSU mishap.
Kylie Burdick was strong throughout, allowing just five hits and walking none to guide the Pioneers to another Florida victory, 2-0.
GSU 5 | Ashland 8
Shelby McDaniels and
Delaney Warnick both garnered RBIs in the bottom of the 3
rd, boosting Glenville State to a 2-0 lead. Ashland answered back in the fourth with an RBI single, cutting the GSU advantage in half.
Macie Duvall added onto the Pioneers total in the fifth with an RBI single, however, the Eagles once again answered with an RBI single of their own as the score read 3-2, Pioneers.
Lillian Burns' RBI double in the 6
th made it 5-2, but huge six-run 7
th inning by Ashland spoiled Glenville State's final game in Florida with AU winning, 8-5.

The Pioneers are back on the road this weekend, heading to Virginia to challenge four PSAC opponents in the WVWC Tournament.
