GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Men's Basketball heads to Wheeling this week for the Mountain East Conference Tournament, looking to build momentum following a dramatic Senior Day victory. The No. 5 seed Pioneers will face No. 4 seed Charleston in the MEC Quarterfinals Friday (Mar. 6) night at WesBanco Arena, setting up another chapter in a tightly contested rivalry between the two programs.
The matchup features two teams that played a pair of close games during the regular season and also met in last year's conference tournament, adding another layer of postseason familiarity to Friday's contest. With both programs finishing near the top of the conference standings, the Quarterfinal matchup has the potential to be one of the most competitive games of the tournament's opening round.

2025–26 Season
Charleston enters the MEC Tournament as one of the hottest teams in the conference, finishing the regular season (19–8) overall and (14–6) in league play while riding a seven-game winning streak into postseason play. The Golden Eagles secured the No. 4 seed in the tournament bracket and will face Glenville State in the 4/5 quarterfinal matchup.
The two teams met twice during the regular season with Charleston narrowly winning both contests. The first meeting came early in conference play when the Golden Eagles defeated Glenville State 94–88 in Charleston. The teams met again on February 25 at the Waco Center in one of the most competitive games of the season, where Charleston escaped with a 79–78 overtime victory in a matchup that featured 18 lead changes.
Charleston has been one of the most efficient offensive teams in the conference this season, averaging 86.0 points per game while shooting 51 percent from the field and over 40 percent from three-point range. The Golden Eagles also move the ball effectively offensively, averaging 18 assists per game, and control the glass with a +5.7 rebounding margin. Friday's matchup will also serve as a rematch from last season's MEC Tournament when No. 6 seed Glenville State defeated No. 3 seed Charleston in the opening round, adding another element of postseason familiarity between the two teams.

The Pioneers closed the regular season with a thrilling 90–89 victory over Concord on Senior Day, providing momentum heading into postseason play. The Pioneers have been one of the highest-scoring teams in the conference this season, averaging 89.2 points per game while knocking down 11.2 three-pointers per contest. Glenville State has also been strong on the boards, averaging 38.5 rebounds per game, and maintains a positive turnover margin, helping create additional scoring opportunities throughout the season.
Glenville's fast-paced style and ability to score in transition have fueled several high-scoring performances during conference play. Despite two close losses to Charleston during the regular season, including the overtime contest in Glenville, the Pioneers will look to turn those experiences into an advantage as they enter postseason play.

Glenville State is led by First Team All-MEC guard Jalen Knott, who averages 18.0 points per game and leads the team with 99 three-pointers this season. Knott's perimeter shooting and scoring ability have been a key part of the Pioneer offense throughout the year.
