ELKINS, W.Va. – The Glenville State Baseball team put together one of its most complete weekends of the 2026 season, sweeping a four-game Mountain East Conference series against Davis & Elkins on Friday (Apr. 17) and Saturday (Apr. 18). The Pioneers improved to (22-18) overall and (11-11) in MEC play, extending their winning streak to five games while outscoring the Senators 45-13 across the weekend.
Friday (Apr. 17)
Game One – GSU 12 | Davis & Elkins 2
Glenville State opened the weekend with a dominant offensive performance, collecting 16 hits in a 12-2 win. The Pioneers struck early in the first inning when Greyson McNeill delivered a two-run double to score Ashton Crace and Adam Bright. After Davis & Elkins answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning, Glenville State continued to build momentum. The Pioneers added two runs in the third inning behind a sacrifice fly from Luke Sweigart and an RBI single from Colby Guy to extend the lead.
A three-run fourth inning helped break the game open, highlighted by RBI singles from Adam Bright and Ashton Crace, along with a run scoring on a passed ball. Glenville State continued to add insurance in the fifth and seventh innings, including RBIs from Zach Laurie, Jacob Meadows, and Marlon Bravo. Adam Bright and Ashton Crace led the offense with three and four hits respectively, while Zach Dellerman earned the win on the mound, allowing just two runs over 5.2 innings. The Pioneers' pitching staff limited the Senators to six hits in the contest.
Game Two – GSU 13 | Davis & Elkins 5
The Pioneers carried that momentum into game two, using a balanced offensive attack to secure a 13-5 victory. Glenville State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning with RBI contributions from Ashton Crace and Greyson McNeill. After building a 3-0 advantage, Davis & Elkins responded with a four-run third inning to briefly take the lead. The Pioneers quickly answered, tying the game in the fourth before regaining control in the fifth inning. RBI singles from Jacob Meadows, Ashton Crace, and Luke Sweigart fueled a three-run frame to put Glenville State back in front.
The game broke open in the sixth inning when Zach Laurie delivered a bases-clearing three-RBI single, followed by a sacrifice fly from Adam Bright. Laurie continued his strong performance with a two-RBI hit in the seventh to cap off a five-RBI game. Glenville State totaled 14 hits and drew 12 walks, consistently putting pressure on the Senators' pitching staff. Adrian Orozco earned the win in relief, holding Davis & Elkins to one run over four innings.
Saturday (Apr. 18)
Game Three – GSU 11 | Davis & Elkins 0
The Pioneers continued their strong play on Saturday with a dominant 11-0 shutout victory. Glenville State opened the scoring in the second inning when Zach Laurie tripled to drive in Jetsel Cajigas-Martinez before scoring on a balk. The offense exploded in the third inning, highlighted by a three-RBI double from Greyson McNeill that extended the lead to 6-0.
The Pioneers added five more runs in the fifth inning behind RBI hits from Cajigas-Martinez, Laurie, and Ashton Crace to put the game out of reach. On the mound, Trent Taylor led the way with five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out seven. The pitching staff combined to hold Davis & Elkins to three hits in the shutout effort.
Game Four – GSU 9 | Davis & Elkins 6
Glenville State completed the weekend sweep with a resilient 9-6 comeback victory in the series finale. Davis & Elkins jumped out to an early 6-3 lead, capitalizing on several Pioneer miscues and unearned opportunities. However, Glenville State steadily chipped away at the deficit. The Pioneers tied the game in the sixth inning when Ashton Crace delivered an RBI single, followed by a go-ahead run scoring on a fielder's choice by David Arroyo. Glenville State added key insurance runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by an RBI double from Zach Laurie and a sacrifice fly from Jacob Meadows.
After the early innings, the Glenville State pitching staff settled in. William Chu earned the win in relief, shutting down the Senators over 3.1 scoreless innings, while Zach Dellerman closed out the game to secure the sweep.
