5/1/2026 9:57:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Glenville State Softball team closed the regular season winners in 18 of their last 20 games, completing season sweeps of Davis & Elkins and West Virginia Wesleyan on Thursday (Apr. 30) and Friday (May 1). The Pioneers are (39-13, 24-6 MEC) heading into the MEC Tournament next week.

Thursday (Apr. 30)
Game One – GSU 17 | Davis & Elkins 0 (5 Inn.)
The Pioneers couldn't have imagined a better start to their Thursday sweep of the Senators, using 16 hits to score 17 runs and shutout D&E in the opeming game. After a scoreless first inning, GSU put up a nine spot on the board in the second inning, using RBI knocks from Zailees Seda, Emma McLean, Alexis Harward and Shelby McDaniels as well as two-run home runs from Delaney Warnick and Hannah Howe. The following inning, McDaniels added two RBIs to her total to make it 10-0 before Warnick blasted her second homer of the game in the fifth inning, extending the advantage to 13.

Seda, McDaniels and AndiJo Howard put the finishing touches on the six-run fifth inning to allow Alexi Dellinger to cruise in the bottom half of the frame as GSU shutout the Senators in convincing fashion, 17-0.

Game Two – GSU 7 | Davis & Elkins 6
Unlike game one, Glenville State had to get the bats going late to mount a comeback to secure the doubleheader sweep. Hannah Howe put the first run of game on the board in the top of the third, however, the Senators answered back mightily with five runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-1 lead. A pair of scoreless frames kept the Pioneers at arm's length, which eventually tightened in the sixth when Zailees Seda drove in two with a single.

D&E picked up an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on an error, building a three-run lead going into the final stanza. Still trailing by three with two outs, Sara Scoone called on Karlie Burdick to pinch hit, and she delivered with an RBI single in the gap. Emily Nolan then singled in a run to make it a one run game, and Hannah Howe showed her clutch gene with a two-run, go-ahead single to right field. Meghan Stump completed her 4.2 innings of relief strong in the bottom half of the 7th, sitting down the Senators in order to secure the 7-6 comeback victory.

Friday (May 1)
Game One – GSU 9 | WVWC 0
AndiJo Howard and Shelby McDaniels gave the Pioneers an early lead in the second, with Hannah Howe and Zailees Seda adding onto the advantage in the fourth inning to make it 5-0. McDaniels, Howe and Seda helped GSU put a four spot on the board in the 5th inning, allowing Kylie Burdick to finish her day off early. Burdick struck out three and gave up just one hit over five innings of work as GSU won 9-0 in a run-rule victory.

Game Two – GSU 7 | WVWC 4
The Pioneers and Bobcats traded runs in the opening inning, with Emily Nolan notching an RBI before West Virginia Wesleyan's Josi Fix answered back in the bottom of the 1st with an RBI single. Shelby McDaniels and Lillian Burns both had RBI singles in the second inning before WVWC cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the third, 3-2. Emma McLean logged an RBI double in the fifth inning, however, the Bobcats quickly battled back in the bottom of the inning with consecutive RBI singles.

GSU's pitching staff got some insurance prior to the final inning, as Hannah Howe hit a towering two-run home run in the top of the 6th to make it 7-4. The Bobcats were unable to answer back this time, with Glenville State picking up their eighth win in a row to close out the regular season.
