CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Glenville State Baseball team came into Wednesday's (May 6) 2026 Mountain East Conference Tournament as the lowest seed in the field and the Pioneers fought their way into Sunday's (May 10) championship game against Charleston, where GSU nearly erased a 6-0 deficit but fell 6-5 to the Golden Eagles. Glenville State's season came to an end at (30-23), the program's second-ever 30-win campaign.

The Golden Eagles scored all six runs in the second inning with three RBI singles, a sac fly and a two-RBI triple by the tournament's MVP Collin Kemp. The Pioneers chipped into the Golden Eagles lead in the bottom of the 2

Zach Laurie doubled in
Jacob Meadows and
Greyson McNeill drove in two with a single in the 3
rd to make it a 6-4 game.
Following a lightning delay in the 4
th, the Pioneer bullpen continued to shove and keep Charleston scoreless for the remainder of the game. GSU worked free passes all game, walking 11 times to put runners in scoring position. Meadows came through with a big single with the bases loaded in the 7
th to bring home
Carlos De Jesus but
Colby Guy would be thrown out at the plate as the UC kept the lead, 6-5.
Ty Walton and
William Chu locked down the 8
th and 9
th innings, setting up a big bottom of the ninth.
Austin Carter was plunked to get a runner on base, and
David Arroyo, who came in for
Luke Sweigart in the 8
th inning, belted a near game-tying double in the right field gap but Charleston's Abe Fenwick tracked it down in the gap to save the lead. Carter would then steal second, but UC forced a grounder to the right side and clinched their fourth MEC Tournament title in the last five years.

The Golden Eagles had four different players have two hits with Collin Kemp leading the way with two knocks and two RBIs. Charleston used six pitchers, allowing Sam Sheets to garner the win and Landon Ingram to notch the save.
Glenville State
Greyson McNeill was one of four Pioneers who had a hit and he led the team in RBIs with two. Head coach Jimmy Mullins trotted six pitchers to the mound, with
Zach Dellerman pitching in his fifth game in five days and the bullpen locking it down.
