SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The fourth-seeded Glenville State Softball team advanced to the program's first-ever NCAA DII Atlantic Super Regional with today's (May 16) two-game sweep of fifth-seeded Charleston in the Atlantic Region Pod 1 Final. The Pioneers avenged Thursday's (May 14) loss to the Golden Eagles with a 5-4 first game win and a 10-7 clinching victory in game two. The Pioneers are now (49-15) in the historic year.
Game One – GSU 5 | Charleston 4
After both teams left a plethora of runners on base and in scoring position,
Shelby McDaniels came through with a two-out RBI single in the 4
th inning to break the scoreless tie. In the fifth,
Emma McLean and
Alexis Harward added onto the advantage with back-to-back RBIs, making it 3-0. Charleston trimmed the Pioneer lead in the 6
th, using an RBI single and sac fly to cut the deficit to just one run.
Glenville State got much needed insurance runs in the 6
th inning on RBI singles from
Zailees Seda and
Kylee Goodman. The Golden Eagles didn't go down easy, plating two runs in the 7
th on a two-RBI double from Taylor Hodson. With the bases loaded and one out,
Meghan Stump worked a strikeout and pop fly to secure the win and force a final game, 5-4.
Game Two – GSU 10 | Charleston 7
The Pioneers scored early and often in the winner take-all deciding game, plating three runs in the top of the 1
st on an RBI single from
Emily Nolan and a two-RBI knock from
Hannah Howe. UC notched a run in the bottom of the inning, but Glenville State added two more to the scoreboard on a pair of singles by
Shelby McDaniels and
Lillian Burns in the following inning.
Charleston made it 5-2 in the bottom of the 2
nd before Glenville State jumped out to 10-2 advantage over the next three innings with RBIs by Howe,
Emma McLean,
Alexis Harward,
Zailees Seda and
Delaney Warnick. To no surprise, UC put together a strong comeback in the teams ninth time seeing each other in 2026. The Golden Eagles scored two in the fifth, and plated three in the 7
th while also putting the tying run at the plate.
Meghan Stump, who generated a game-winning out in game one, got Charleston's top hitter and All-Region selection, Kayla Moran, to float a pop up to
Zailees Seda, who made an acrobatic catch to clinch Glenville State's ticket to Super Regionals.
Up Next For The Pioneers
The Pioneers will now take on the region's number three seed, Kutztown, in the Atlantic Super Regional on Thursday (May 21). GSU and the Golden Bears will play a best two out of three series for a chance to advance to the NCAA DII Women's College World Series.
