SALEM, Va. – The Glenville State Softball team advanced to the program's first-ever Mountain East Conference Tournament Championship with a pair of impressive wins today (May 8) at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex. The Pioneers defeated Frostburg State, 6-2, earlier in the day to stay alive before using an 11-run fifth inning to blowout Fairmont State, 14-0, and improve to (43-14) on the year.
Game One – GSU 6 | Frostburg State 2
The Pioneers had their first big inning of Friday in the opening stanza of their elimination game with Frostburg State, plating four runs on two sacrifice flies, an error and an RBI single from
Kylee Goodman.
AndiJo Howard walked with the bases loaded in the third to extend Glenville State's lead, but the Bobcats didn't go down without a fight. FSU put a two spot on the board in the 4
th inning, trimming GSU's lead down to three.
Emily Nolan brought home
Delaney Warnick with an RBI single in the 6
th and
Meghan Stump recorded her third complete game of the season, striking out five and surrendering two runs (unearned) to advance the Pioneers.
Game Two – GSU 14 | Fairmont State 0 (5 Inn.)
Delaney Warnick had three hits and six RBIs in the Pioneers huge win over the north's top seed, Fairmont State. She got the scoring started in the 3
rd with an RBI single, and
Emily Nolan backed her up with a two-run home run the next at-bat. GSU then had their 11-run inning in the 5
th, where Warnick drove in five and hit a grand slam while
Kylee Goodman,
Zailees Seda,
AndiJo Howard,
Shelby McDaniels and
Lillian Burns all added RBIs.
Maci Boggess sat the Falcons down in order in the bottom of the 5
th to cap off her strong start where she fanned five and gave up just five hits in her 17
th victory of the season. Fairmont State went through five pitchers, with four coming in the big fifth inning.
Up Next For The Pioneers
The Pioneers will take top-seeded University of Charleston in the championship game tomorrow (May 9) at 12 p.m. GSU will need to beat UC twice to capture the conference championship. Glenville State and the Golden Eagles split their four-game season series in 2026.
