GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Women's Soccer rallied late to defeat Shawnee State, 2-1, on Wednesday (Sept. 16) evening at Ike & Sue Morris Stadium. The Pioneers scored twice in less than three minutes during the final ten minutes of regulation to secure their third win and improve to (3-3) overall and (3-1) in league play.
1st Half
The Pioneers controlled the possession early and generated several scoring opportunities, outshooting Shawnee State 13-2 in the opening half. Despite the offensive pressure, it was the Bears who struck first. In the 15th minute, Lucie Ashkettle found the back of the net to give Shawnee State a 1-0 cushion. Glenville State continued to push forward throughout the remainder of the half, earning six corner kicks and forcing multiple saves from the Shawnee State goalkeeper. However, the Pioneers were unable to break through before halftime.
2nd Half
Glenville State turned up the pressure after the break, recording 22 shots in the second half alone. The Pioneers consistently threatened the Shawnee State defense and created several quality scoring chances, but the visitors held onto their lead deep into regulation. The first Pioneer goal finally came in the 82nd minute when Solares Solano delivered a pass to Valentina Quiroz, who finished the opportunity to tie the score at 1-1. Less than three minutes later, the Pioneers completed the comeback. Margaux Fernandez connected with Solano, and the forward found the back of the net to give Glenville State its first lead of the match. The Pioneer defense closed out the final minutes, allowing no second-half shots as they secured the 2-1 victory.

Shawnee State
The Bears were limited to just two shots in the match, with their lone goal coming from Lucie Ashkettle in the first half. Shawnee State goalkeeper Harlee Brand recorded 10 saves while facing a constant Glenville State attack. The Bears did not earn a corner kick and were held without a shot in the second half.
Glenville State
The Pioneers dominated all categories, outshooting Shawnee State 35-2 and holding a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks. Valentina Quiroz scored her second goal of the season, while Solares Solano contributed a goal and an assist in the victory. Margaux Fernandez added an assist on the game-winning goal. Glenville State placed 12 shots on target in the victory.
