GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Volleyball team earned a 3-0 non-conference victory tonight (Sept. 30), sweeping Ursuline inside the Waco Center. GSU moves to (9-7, 2-2 MEC) on the year.
Ursuline took an early 4-2 lead in the opening set before Glenville State answered with four consecutive points, including back-to-back service aces from
Shyanne Hays. The Pioneers later created separation with six unanswered points to take a 15-8 advantage.
Gracie Brown supplied four kills during the run. However, the Arrows responded with eight consecutive points to turn a 17-12 deficit into a 20-17 lead. Trailing 23-19, GSU rallied with five straight points behind kills from
Ryann Landis and Brown, a
Juliana Nunez ace, and two Ursuline errors. The Arrows regained the advantage at 25-24, but Landis fought off set point with a kill. Consecutive kills from Nunez and Brown completed the comeback, securing a 27-25 victory.
Glenville State carried its momentum into the second set, turning a 3-2 advantage into a 9-2 lead with six consecutive points. Hays contributed a solo block and a kill during the stretch, while Brown added two kills and
Brenan Harvey supplied a service ace. Ursuline scored three straight points to cut the lead to 9-5, but the Pioneers kept building their advantage. With GSU ahead 14-8, a Nunez kill sparked a four-point run that included a solo block from
Deniz Selen Yazar, a
Mylani Jackson kill, and another Nunez ace. The blue and white maintained control down the stretch, hitting .300 in the frame before an Ursuline attack error sealed the 25-13 victory and a 2-0 match lead.
Ursuline responded early in the third set, opening a 4-1 advantage before Glenville State scored four unanswered points to move ahead. The Pioneers extended their lead to 13-9, but the Arrows battled back with three consecutive points to narrow the margin to one. Brown ended the run with a kill, beginning a five-point stretch that included consecutive Jackson kills and another from Nunez to put GSU ahead 18-12. Glenville State continued to apply pressure, recording 16 kills on a .394 hitting percentage in the final frame. Hays supplied two late kills before Selen Yazar delivered consecutive kills to finish the 25-16 victory and complete the sweep.

Kimora Hansbrough paced the Arrows with eight kills, followed by Ellie Zoeckler with six and Ariella Keys with five. Keys also recorded a match-high five blocks, while Zoeckler added 11 digs and both of Ursuline's service aces. Vada Belt directed the offense with 12 assists, while Annie Quinlan contributed six. Mya Jackson led the defense with 12 digs. The Arrows finished with 27 kills, 48 digs, six blocks, and two service aces, hitting .051 for the match.

Gracie Brown led the Pioneers with a match-high 17 kills on a .295 hitting percentage and added 14 digs.
Juliana Nunez contributed nine kills, nine digs, and three service aces, while
Mylani Jackson finished with eight kills.
Shyanne Hays supplied four kills on a .500 hitting percentage, a team-high three blocks, and two aces.
Irmak Bezek paced the offense with 39 assists and added seven digs.
Kassie Swink matched Brown with 14 digs, while
Brenan Harvey collected 12. GSU totaled 44 kills, 63 digs, five blocks, and six service aces, finishing with a .218 hitting percentage.
