GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Volleyball team opened its home schedule in dominant fashion this evening (Sept. 8), sweeping WVU Tech in three sets inside the Waco Center. The Pioneers improve to (5-5) on the season.
Glenville State wasted little time taking control of the opening frame. The Pioneers established their offense early and kept WVU Tech from finding a consistent rhythm, holding the Golden Bears to just four kills in the set. GSU continued to create separation as the frame progressed, capitalizing on WVU Tech's errors while remaining efficient on the attack. The Pioneers totaled 15 kills and hit .281, while the Golden Bears finished with a -.071 hitting percentage. Glenville State never allowed WVU Tech to work its way back into the frame, cruising to a 25-11 victory. In set two, WVU Tech responded with a stronger showing in the second, but the Pioneers continued to dictate the pace. Glenville State put together its most efficient offensive performance of the night, recording 14 kills. The Pioneers also found success from the service line, recording four service aces while adding two blocks at the net. WVU Tech remained within striking distance throughout portions of the frame, but the blue and white eventually pulled away for the 25-19 win.
In the eventual final set, the Golden Bears gave Glenville State their toughest challenge of the night. With WVU Tech looking to extend the match, the Pioneers were forced to battle through a much tighter frame. Glenville State's offense continued to produce, putting down a match-best 19 kills in the third. WVU Tech kept the pressure on and made it a three-point set, but the Pioneers remained composed when the frame tightened late. GSU held off the Golden Bears in the closing points to earn the 25-22 victory, completing the three-set sweep.

Aniston Treadway led the team in kills with 10, while Maura O'Neill had five. Addison White led in assists with 16, and Ivana Burgos had five. White also had two blocks while Ashlinn Sullivan had one service ace. Addison White led the Golden Bears in digs with 13, while Aniston Treadway had eight.
Glenville State
Glenville State's offense was balanced throughout the night, with
Deniz Selen Yazar and
Gracie Brown leading the Pioneers with 10 kills apiece.
Mikayla Curry followed with seven kills as GSU finished the match with 48 total kills.
Irmak Bezek orchestrated the Pioneers' attack with 26 assists, while
Elitsa Peneva added 13 and
Madison Lee recorded three.
Cecelia Bryant led the match with four service aces as
Kendel Harris added two as well. Harris and Bryant led the defensive effort with 11 digs apiece and
Juliana Nunez collected seven in the win.
