Pioneers Hot Shooting From Three Propels GSU Past West Virginia Wesleyan 100-53

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State Men's Basketball team rolled past the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan 100-53. The Pioneers are now 8-2 in their last 10 along and have scored 100 or more points three times this season. It was a group effort for Glenville State with seven Pioneers finishing in double figures. 

Both offenses started out the contest on a cold spell with the first points coming at the 17:44 mark. West Virginia Wesleyan was able to score first with a layup by Jamal Jacobs inside the paint. It would still be another minute until the Pioneers got on the board.  When Jacquez Yow put GSU on the scoreboard it sparked a 7-0 run. Before the under-15 media timeout Glenville state had a five-point advantage.

At the 7:03 mark, a layup by Harrison Eghan sparked the Pioneer's hot shooting. In the first half alone Glenville State shot 60.6% from the field and 50% from three. Eghan's layup from inside the paint also sparked a 12-1 run putting the Pioneers up 16. 

In the last four minutes of the first half De' Ante Petree was on fire from beyond the arc. Petree hit four straight three giving the Pioneers a 23-point advantage before heading into the half. The Winston-Salem, N.C. native hit a career-high five threes.

Coming out of the half Both Freddie Word and Jordan Turbo Smith got going on the offensive end. Both Guards in the second half alone combined for 13 points. Glenville State took their first 30-point lead at the 18:13 mark. The Bobcats continued to struggle from three in the final 20 minutes. On nine attempts West Virginia Wesleyan did not find the back of the net. 

In the final 12 minutes of the contest, the GSU continued to fire on all cylinders. Glenville State produced a 12-4 run taking the lead 96-51 with multiple Pioneers contributing. Jay Scott, Trevor Chandler, and Dajon Congleton all scored during Glenville's hot streak. With Scott hitting a three and getting to the free throw line in the last minute, the Pioneers took their largest lead of the night 100-53 before the final horn.

De' Ante Petree led the Pioneers in scoring tonight with 15 points and also grabbed three rebounds. Harrison Eghan produced a game-high eight rebounds and was just shy of Petree with 14 points. Junior Freddie Word had team-high six assists and finished the contest with 12 points.
