Lady Pioneers host the Mountain Lions of Concord University for Winter Homecoming

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State Women's Basketball team returns to the Waco Center for Winter Homecoming against Concord University. The Lady Pioneers are coming off their second loss of the season while the Mountain Lions are coming off a hard-fought loss to the University of Charleston. With GSU one game back at the halfway mark, Glenville State still has a path to the #1 seed for the Mountain East Conference Tournament.

A Look at Your Lady Pioneers

In the series' most recent history, the Lady Pioneers are (8-2) in the last contests. The last five games inside the Waco Center have gone in favor of Glenville State. Last season Coach Stephens's squad won both contests against the Mountain Lions.

The Lady pioneers are coming off a hard-fought loss to the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State. Glenville State would be out-rebounded 57-31 which was their lowest rebound total of the season. Breanna Campbell led Glenville in scoring, rebounds, assists, and steals. The junior guard produced 22 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals. 

Glenville State continues to have the best assist-to-turnover ratio in the conference. Through 17 games the Lady Pioneers are finishing games on average with a 0.90 assist-to-turnover ratio. While GSU is only shooting 31.9% from three Glenville is hitting a high volume of their shots from beyond the arc. The Lady Pioneers' 9.8 threes per contest ranks fifth in the nation and first in the MEC. Glenville State also has had one the best scoring margins this season outscoring opponents by 20.6 points per contest.

A Look at Concord

Concord is coming off a 12-point loss to the #20 Golden Eagles of Charleston University. Entering the half the Mountian Lions only trailed by five to UC. Maggie Guynn had a team-high 19 points and also finished the contest with three steals. Concord's Jaisah Smith and Abbie Smith both were double figures scoring.

Tesla Southcott enters her first season under the helm and is the program's seventh head coach. Southcott has spent many seasons with the Mountain Lions as an assistant under Kenny Osborne. Under her time as an assistant, seven players have received all-conference honors. 

So far this season the Mountain Lions have been one of the better teams in the conference at getting to the free-throw line. On average Concord is attempting 21 free throws per game which is fourth in the league and 37th in the nation. Coach Southcott's squad is converting on their attempts shooting 73.2% from the free throw line. However, the Mountain Lions are only averaging 65.5 points per game which is 10th in the MEC.
