Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State University Pioneer baseball team has recently released their 46-game schedule for the upcoming 2023 season. Head Coach Jimmy Mullins enters his tenth season under the helm. Assistant Coach Dylan Frye and graduate assistant Zach Bacon return while Nolan Freeman enters his first season on the Pioneers staff.
GSU starts their season off strong with a double header home opener against Mansfield University. Shortly following the games against Mansfield, the Pioneers will host a home tournament consisting of 3 games against UPJ, D'Youville, and Millersville starting on the 24
th of February running through the 26th.
After warming up on their home field, Pioneer baseball will travel to Wilson, S.C. in the first weekend of March to compete in the South Carolina Clash against St. Rose and Kutztown.
Just a few weeks after, they will open the Mountain East Conference portion of their schedule by playing a doubleheader against Fairmont University at home on March 18th. The rest of the March consists of games against Frostburg State at home on March 19th, at Notre Dame on the 25th and Alderson-Broaddus closing out the month of march on the road.
The month of April continues conference play and shows the Pioneers at home for 12 games and eight away games. They play at home against West Liberty on April 1
st followed by Wheeling the next day. Towards the end of the month GSU will host West Virginia State and Davis and Elkins.
The Pioneers first road test of the month will be against the University of Charleston April 7
th and 8
th. GSU will close out April in a weekend series against the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan on the 29
th and 30
th.
Coach Mullins's squad will close out the 2023 season in May against Concord University. The Pioneers will host the Mountain Lions May 5
th then travel to Athens on the 7
th. Last season series had serious postseason implications for Glenville.
Coming off of their historic 2022 season the pioneers hope to make consecutive MEC tournament appearances.
