CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The No. 22 Glenville State Lady Pioneers recovered from Saturday's defeat to WVSU with a 96-73 victory on the road at Charleston tonight. GSU shot 50% from the field and forced the Golden Eagles into 33 turnovers in the win.
It didn't take long for the Lady Pioneers to get on the scoreboard as Chalon Miles connected from deep just four seconds into the game. The hot shooting continued for GSU, hitting their first four three-pointers before finally missing. Glenville State kept their foot on the gas and scored 31 points in the opening quarter, taking a 31-15 lead into the second quarter.
The Lady Pioneers didn't have as much offensive success in the 2nd quarter, shooting 29% from the field while UC shot 70%. Even with the poor offensive showcase, GSU was able to sustain a double-digit lead into the locker room at 49-34.
Charleston trimmed the deficit to 11 on multiple occasions but couldn't get it under that. A quick 8-0 run allowed Glenville State to build their lead up to 19 at 61-42. With the Lady Pioneers leading 74-56 at the end of the third quarter, UC needed a big jumpstart in the final quarter.
That jumpstart wouldn't happen for the Golden Eagles with the Lady Pioneers consistently keeping the lead over 20. GSU got up by as much as 24 and would eventually close out Charleston, picking up the 96-73 win.
