SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Glenville State Men's Basketball team won an overtime thriller at Notre Dame College 88-87 tonight. The Pioneers shot 40% from the field and grabbed 19 offensive rebounds in the victory.
In the first half, the Pioneers were in a back-and-forth battle with the Falcons, trading baskets and the lead in the first eight minutes. GSU then jumped out to a nine-point lead at 25-16 but NDC had a strong last five minutes of the half, regaining the lead at 34-33 and taking the one-point advantage into the locker room.
NDC kept the lead for nearly eight minutes to start the second half as the Pioneers trailed by five or less in that span. A Jordan Turbo Smith three would tie the game up at 49 and Smith then gave the Pioneers their first lead of the half on the next possession. The squads then exchanged the lead until GSU formed a seven-point lead with two and a half minutes left in the game. Notre Dame was able to tie the game up at 76 and the Pioneers weren't able to win the game on the final possession of regulation, sending the game to overtime.
In OT, Glenville State came out firing, going up by five within the first 25 seconds. NDC once again fought back, taking a one-point lead with 58 seconds left. Dominiq Penn connected from long range to put the Pioneers up two but the Falcons answered right back with a three of their own, taking yet another one-point lead with just 33 seconds left. On the next possession, Devin Collins drove to the lane and connected on an acrobatic layup, putting GSU up by one. On NDC's final attempt, it was Collins who contested RJ Ogom at the rim to deny the Falcons of a victory and close out the 88-87 win for the Pioneers.
The Final Stats
Jordan Turbo Smith wrapped up the night with 32 points on 52% shooting from the field. Smith's five assists also led the team. Jaelin Johnson finished with a double-double, scoring 20 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Jay Scott (11 points) and Devin Collins (10 points) were in double figures as well. Trevor Chandler pulled down 11 rebounds in 31 minutes off the bench in the win.
The Falcons were led by Andre Harris' 22 points and 11 rebounds. Gbolahan Adio scored 17 points and Cameron Johnson dropped 12 points to aid the offense. To go with his 17 points, Adio had eight rebounds and six assists also.
