Lady Pioneers Looking to Complete Regular Season Sweep of West Virginia Wesleyan

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State Women's Basketball team hits the road for a weekend conference matchup with the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan. If the Lady Pioneers can finish the season 2-1 they will lock up the first seed for the Mountain East Conference Tournament. A win on Saturday will complete the regular season sweep for the sixth consecutive season.

A Look at Your Lady Pioneers

GSU has already faced the Bobcats once this season and came out on top 61-55. The first meeting proved to be a battle with coach Vincent's squad slowing the pace. While the Lady Pioneers only shot 31.9% from the field, they would only commit a season-low six turnovers. 

In Glenville State's last timeout, the Lady Pioneers were able to defeat Davis and Elkins 86-58 extending their winning streak to eight. Once again Breanna Campbell had a strong performance. The junior guard had a team-high 25 points and grabbed six rebounds. Coach Stephens's squad where able to produce 30 points off the bench in the winning effort.

The Lady Pioneers continue to have one of the best offenses in the conference and the country. On average GSU is scoring 88.8 points per game which is second in the MEC and in the nation. Glenville has been able to do this on efficient shooting from the field as well. Through 25 games the Lady Pioneers are shooting 44.3% from the field.

A Look at the Bobcats

Since the first meeting between these two squads, the Bobcats have gone 3-6. Four of those losses were decided by 10 or fewer points. Coach Vincent's squad was able to test the University of Charleston until the very end. 

The Bobcats are coming off a narrow victory over Concord University 64-60.WVWC's defense was able to hold the Mountian Lions to nine points in two quarters. Emma Witt finished the contest with a double-double scoring a game-high 23 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Throughout the 2022-23 campaign, the Bobcats have been a solid defensive team. While opponents are shooting 41.4% from the field, West Virginia Wesleyan is only allowing 69.3 points per contest. WVWC also has been effective at keeping opponents away from the free throw line only committing 17.2 fouls per game which is second in the MEC.
