GSU Men’s Basketball Secure 4th Winning Season in the Past Two Decades

Buckhannon, W.Va. - Glenville State's Men's Basketball Team completed the regular season sweep for the first time since the 2017-18 season. The Pioneer's win also secures them a winning season for the 4th time in the past two decades. With GSU outrebounding the Bobcats 45-30, Coach Caldwell's squad was able to come out on top 84-67.

Jaelin Johnson scored the Pioneer's first points with a layup inside the paint.  While Glenville took a double-digit lead early on, WVWC kept it close. Before the first media timeout, a bucket by Freddie Word put GSU up by one.

Coming out of the first stoppage of play Glenville State went on a 15-0 run. During the run, five separate Pioneers contributed with a free throw by Trevor Chandler starting the hot stretch. Jordan Turbo Smith, Jamarvious Jones, and Jay Scott hit threes from beyond the arc. Heading into the final media timeout GSU led 34-17.

During the final three minutes, the Pioneer's defense was lights out not letting Wesleyan score another point. With Glenville ending the first half on an 8-0 run, GSU led 42-19.

In the second half, Glenville State's offense continued to fire on all cylinders doubling their first-half total. Throughout the first minutes of the half, the Pioneers continued to build their advantage. At the 10:39 mark, GSU took their largest lead of the contest 66-34.

West Virginia Wesleyan was able to triple its offensive production in the second half. However, The Bobcat's offense could still not keep up with the Pioneers. WVWC would end the contest on an 11-5 run but Glenville was able to increase its advantage and win 84-67.

Junior guard Jordan Turbo Smith led the Pioneers in scoring with 20 and produced three assists. Freddie Word finished the contest with another double-double scoring 18 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Dajon Congleton led GSU's bench in scoring with nine points hitting three threes.
