GSU Men’s Basketball Falls to Charleston on Senior Night 82-63

Glenville, W.Va. -  Glenville State Men's Basketball team honored senior student manager Jacob Brannon. The Pioneers fell to the University of Charleston Golden Eagles 82-63. While GSU would only commit nine turnovers, UC shot 59.3% from the field compared to Glenville's 39.7%

Charleston stuck first in tonight's contest with a CJ Meredith three. The Golden Eagles took advantage of the Pioneers early shooting woes producing a 14-3 to start the game. Glenville's offense finally got going at the 17:23 mark with a layup by Freddie Word.

While GSU trailed by double-digits early, the Pioneers were able to bring it back to within two points. Around the halfway point of the first half Glenville produced a 14-5 run. Jordan Turbo Smith, Jacquez Yow, Freddie Word, and Jamrvious Jones all contributed during the Pioneer's hot stretch.

The Pioneers would keep the contest within single digits until the end of the half. Charleston was able to close out the half on a 12-2 run. After Turbo's layup at the 3:53 mark GSU offense went cold. Glenville entered halftime down 16 points 40-24.

Coming out of the half Charleston jumped out to a 20-point advantage. While UC would hold onto their 20-point lead the Pioneers started to swing the momentum in their favor. With back-to-back layups from inside the paint, Glenville trailed by 15.

However, the Golden Eagles were able to take their largest lead of the night 63-40. Multiple times throughout the remainder of the contest GSU shrunk UC's advantage down to 17. With Charleston shooting 60% from the field they were able to stop any advancement made by the Pioneers. With less than two minutes remaining Jay Scott hit a three making it 77-63. While Glenville only trailed by 14, the Pioneers ran out of time falling to UC 82-63.

Freddie Word lead Glenville in scoring with 20 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Junior Jordan Turbo Smith would be the second Pioneer in double figures with 18. De' Ante Petree had seven points off the bench for GSU.
