Box Score #1 Glenville State 84, #8 Elizabeth City State 60 | Final Box

GLENVILLE - Top Seed Glenville State utilized a strong second half Saturday night, posting an 84-60 victory over a pesky Elizabeth City State squad. Coach Kim Stephens' Lady Pioneers put 50 points on the board in the second half.

Early on, the Vikings were a problem…they led 18-15 after the first quarter, and were owning the offensive boards, and a tight defense, which held Glenville to 20.0% from the field in the stanza. The Lady Pioneers battled back, but the points were hard to come by, and GSU carried a 34-30 lead into halftime.

Fortunately, the Lady Pioneers were able to have their third consecutive third quarter flurry. They opened the half with an 11-1 run to extend their advantage to 45-33, and gradually pulled away from there.

The combo of Mickayla Perdue and Breanna Campbell combined for 45 of the Lady Pioneer points; Perdue with 23 and Campbell 22. Hya Haywood added 13 points. Campbell also posted team highs with eight rebounds and four assists.

NyAsia Biango led Elizabeth City with 14 points, followed Dy'Jhanik Armfield with 11. Jessica Adams pulled down a game high 12 rebounds, as the Vikings led in team rebounding 49-41.

Glenville posted their 30th win of the campaigns, improving to 30-2. It was the fourth 30-win season of Stephens' seven-year tenure at GSU, as Glenville advances to tomorrow night's semifinal matchup.

Elizabeth City closes their historic season at 20-11.

With only 3:56 remaining, Ship still by 11 at 81-70. State reached down for one last rally and cut the lead to two in the final minute, but the Raiders were able to hit their free throws to clinch the game.
