Lady Pioneers Repeat as Atlantic Regional Champs Defeating West Chester 88-63

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State repeats as Atlantic Regional champions and advances to the Elite Eight for the fourth time in the program's history. The Lady Pioneers hitting 15 threes were able to come out on top 88-63.

While Glenville started out hot making their first two shots from the field, the Golden Rams were able to battle with West Chester. WCU's size played a factor with West Chester doing most of their damage from the paint. Tor'e Alford's three threes in the first quarter helped the Lady Pioneers jump out to a five-point lead. 

GSU's offense exploded in the second quarter shooting 42% from the field and 41.6& from beyond the arc. To start the quarter the Lady Pioneers went on a 13-4 run taking the first double-digit lead of the contest. Glenville's defense was lights out to close out the first half. West Chester would be held to 23.8% shooting from the field and only scored ten points. Heading into the half the Lady Pioneers lead 52-29. 

Coming out of the half Coach Stephens's squad continued to build their advantage. While GSU did not shoot as well in the third and fourth quarters, the press was effective. For the game, Glenville forced 22 turnovers and scored 31 points off of them.  The Golden Rams closed out the third on a 9-4 run but the Lady Pioneers still lead 79-51. 

With the combo of Breanna Campbell and Mickayla Perdue combing for 37 points, GSU was able to close out the game. Campbell had another monster night scoring 24  while grabbing 10 rebounds and producing 10 assists. Chalon Miles was crucial to the Lady Pioneers' offense rebounding effort finishing the contest with five.

Both Campbell and Perdue would be named to the all-tournament team with Breanna being named most valuable player. Ariel Jones from Shippensburg, Leah Johnson from West Chester, and the University of Charleston's Markiya McCormick rounded out the all-tournament team.
