Glenville State Softball Sweeps the Celtics of Carlow

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Softball swept Carlow this afternoon and heads into conference play on a two-game winning streak. The Lady Pioneers' bats were able to get going producing seven runs and 11 hits in the first game. Game two of the doubleheader proved to be a pitchers' dual with both squads combing for nine hits.

Game One Glenville State 7, Carlow 3

Glenville was able to get on the board early with Katelyn Richardson double scoring one run. However, Richardson would try to stretch it to a triple but was thrown out at third. At the bottom of the third, the GSU drove in two more runs. Richardson produced her second RBI of the game with a single to center. After Addison Aguiniga struck out, freshman Shelby Mcdaniels hit a single to center driving in the final run of the inning. 

Holly Brehm got the start for the Lady Pioneers and was able to four innings. The Senior produced seven strikeouts while only allowing one hit.  At the top of the fifth Maddison Thimmes came into the contest. The Lancaster, Ohio native finished out the game for Glenville and picked up the save.

In the bottom of the sixth GSU made it 7-1 putting up four more runs. The Lady Pioneers once again were able to drive the ball into the outfield. Kylie Goodman,  Haley Stevens, and Katelyn Richardson all had RBI singles. At the bottom of the seventh Carlow was able to dig into Glenville's advantage. After the Celtics made it a four-run game with an RBI single the next batter grounded out to first.

Game Two Glenville State 2, Carlow 1

The Lady Pioneers in game two got on the board early once again. Glenville started the contest with a groundout but where able to get baserunners with the next two batters. Addison Aguiniga produced the first run for GSU with a single up the middle. Shelby Mcdaniels drove in the Lady Pioneers' final run of the inning with a single. 

Freshman Kylie Burdick made her sith start of the 2023 campaign. Through the first five innings, Burdick only allowed two hits while giving up zero runs. In the sixth inning, Carlow was able to get on the board. However, Kylie was able to battle back and get the final out of the inning. At the top of the seventh Burdick secured the win while only facing three batters.
