GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Pioneer Baseball opened up conference play splitting the two-game series with the Flacons of Fairmont State. In game one Fairmont pulled away late with a three-run inning in the seventh. However, in the second game of the doubleheader GSU won on a walk-off walk 3-2.

Game One Glenville 4 Fairmont State 6

In the first contest, the Pioneers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Mathew Mangum was able to get on base with a lead-off walk. Mangum was able to move into scoring position picking up his seventh steal of the season. Zach Laure drove in GSU's first run with a single to right field and advanced to second on an error. After Fairmont picked up the first out of the inning, Glenville got on the board once again with a Ryan Rodriguez double.

While the Falcons tied it 2-2 in the next inning the Pioneers continued to battle. Carlos De Jesus would ground out to third but scored Zach Laurie making it 3-2. In the bottom of the fifth Glenville regained their two-run advantage.  While Brandon Layne was out at second trying to stretch a single into a double. Ryan Rodriguez was still able to score.

In the sixth Fairmont's designated hitter homered but it would only be a solo home run. Sophomore Austin Corn got the start for GSU. Corn was able to go six innings for the Pioneers while only giving up four hits.

The Falcons were able to produce offense late in the game putting up three runs in the final inning. Fairmont only had two hits in the seventh but two consecutive walks helped the Falcons take the advantage 5-4 with a 2 RBI double. After Nick Moore struck out Noah Canterberry, Fairmont's Alex Perez hit a double driving in the final run of the contest.

Game Two Glenville 3 Fairmont State 2

Throughout the early portion of the second game, runs came at a premium. Both teams put up a run in the third with Fairmont's Alex Tennant scoring Sabatino on a fielder's choice. After a Jesus Del Valle triple Mason Lohr's single to left field drove him in.

Both starting pitchers gave their respective teams strong outings. For the Falcons, Logan McClure went six innings striking out five while only giving up two runs. In game two Diego Tamariz got the start for the Pioneers. While he would not be credited for the decision, gave GSU five strong innings producing six strikeouts and only giving up three hits.
