Lady Pioneers Start Postseason Play Against Frostburg State

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State Women's Basketball team starts Mountain East Conference Tournament play against Frostburg State University.  The Bobcats have already played a game in the tournament defeating D&E yesterday 70-64. With a win, GSU is one step closer to reaching the championship game.

A Look at Glenville State

In the last meeting between these two schools, the Lady Pioneers came out on top 90-74. While Emilee Weakley produced 37 points and 16 rebounds GSU's defense was able to hold Frostburg to 16.7% from beyond the arc. Forcing turnovers and getting out in transition Glenville produced 29 points from turnovers. 

The Lady Pioneers continue to have one of the top offenses in the country. Coach Stephens's squad is producing 87.6 points per game which is second in the nation and Mountain East Conference. Glenville has been able to have a top offense by getting out in transition. On average the Lady pIoneers produce 15.9 steals per contest which is first in the conference. With GSU forcing 28.1 turnovers per game, Glenville is winning the turnover battle consistently. 

Junior Guard Mickayla Perdue has been lights out from three this season hitting 86 threes. Perdue's 86 threes are the seventh most made in Division II. Mountain East Conference Player of the Year Brenna Campbell has been solid throughout the 2022-23 campaign. Campbell this season has averaged 17.2 points per game, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.3 assists. 

A Look at Frostburg State

The Bobcats are coming off a 70-64 win over the Senators of Davis & Elkins College. Frostburg was able to pull away with a strong fourth quarter shooting 63.6% from the field. Once again Freshman of the Year Emilee Weakly led the FSU in scoring. Weakly was able to produce 24 points while going 7-16 from the field.

Frostburg State has been one of the better teams in the conference at taking care of the ball. On average the Bobcats are only committing 16.6 turnovers per game which is second in the MEC. While Frostburg State shoots 28.2% from three, Maggie Sharp and Rhiana Hall have been solid from beyond the arc.
