No.4 Lady Pioneers Face the University of Charleston in the MEC Championship

Wheeling, W.Va. - Glenville State Women's Basketball teams set their eyes on the University of Charleston Golden Eagles. The Lady Pioneers have faced the Golden Eagles in the past two Mountain East Conference Championships. Charleston has bested Glenville in the past two matchups.

A Look at Your Lady Pioneers

GSU continues to be one of the hottest teams in the conference winning 13 straight. In their last time out the Lady Pioneers set a new season high in total and offensive rebounds. While Glenville's offense struggled throughout the contest the 31 offensive rebounds kept them in the game. Coach Stephens's squad also had a superb day from the free-throw line only missing three attempts. 

The Lady Pioneers press has caused opponents problems the entire tournament. In their first two contests, GSU has forced nearly 50 turnovers which have been just shy of the season average. Mickyla Perdue had a strong third quarter to help Glenville take their first lead of the second half. Perdue after only scoring four points in the first two quarters she produce 11 in the third.

  • 800: With their 24 turnovers against Fairmont State the Lady Pioneers have hit the 800 mark for forced turnovers. 
  • 2: In two consecutive contests GSU has won the rebound battle
  • 3: Breanna Campbell has produced 30 or more points on three separate occasions.
  • 22: In the win against the Falcons Glenville tied their season high for made free throws.
  • 12.2: The Lady Pioneers rank first in the nation for turnover margin. 

A Look at the Golden Eagles

Charleston has the chance to become the second school in the conference's history to win three straight tournament titles. The Golden Eagles faced Wheeling in the quarterfinals and Concord University in the semifinals. While UC has only shot 27.5% from beyond the arc, they have defended the three well. In their two postseason games, Charleston is holding opponents to 25.8% shooting from beyond the arc.

In the Golden Eagles, last time out Dakota Reeves led the team in scoring with 19 points. Reeves also shot an efficient 5-9 from three and grabbed nine rebounds. UC was able to dominate the glass outrebounding the Mountain Lions 47-36

  • 27: Maggie Stephenson ranks fifth in the conference for total blocks.
  • 73.4%: The Golden Eagles have the third-best free throw percentage in the MEC.
  • 65.2: Charleston has allowed the fewest points per game in the conference this season.
  • 34.9%: UC has been one of the better three-point shooting teams in the nation.
