Pioneer Baseball Hosts Four-Game Series With the Dragons of Tiffin University

Glenville, W.Va. – Coach Jimmy Mullins' Glenville Baseball squad is back in action this week, hosting Tiffin University in a weekend four-game set. This weekend also marks the last home non-conference series. Glenville's bullpen will have its hands full with one of the best-hitting teams in the GMAC.

A Look at the Pioneers 

Glenville enters the series with a 6-7 overall mark, and some key early season wins on the board. Carlos DeJesus leads the Pioneer offense with a .312 average, while right fielder Fabian Escalante has already connected on three early-season home runs.
 
Pitching-wise. Glenville has been impressive early on. Diego Tamariz is 2-1 with four quality starts, while Austin Corn and Chase Swain have also posted some strong outings. Coby Howatnick has been the top pitcher out of the bullpen with seven appearances and a key save against St. Rose.

  • 5: Matthew Mangum sits fifth in the conference for stolen bases. 
  • .479: Fabian Escalante has the tenth-best on-base percentage in the MEC.
  • 111: Glenville State's bullpen sits third in the conference for strikeouts.

A Look at the Dragons


Tiffin has been one of the better-hitting teams in the GMAC through the non-conference portion of their schedule. Through 12 games the Dragons have accumulated 133 hits which leads their conference. With the bates being strong for coach Wilkins's squad Tiffin has also produced a conference-high 


The Dragon's bullpen has been able to complement the strong hitting through the early portion of the season. As a unit, the team is posting a 1.83 ERA. However, Tiffin is allowing 11.3 hits per nine innings which is towards the bottom of the GMAC.

  •  .419: Ricky Havrilla leads the Dragons in batting average in sits sixth in their conference.
  • 19: Zach Johnson has produced the seventh most strikeouts in the GMAC.
  • 23: The Dragons have committed the most errors in their conference.
  • 1.12: Gunner Boehm has pitched the most inning out of the Dragon's bullpen.
