GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Baseball swept this afternoon's doubleheader with the Hilltoppers of West Liberty. The Pioneers have won three straight and are back to the .500 mark in Mountian East Conference play. With the bullpen battling adversity and GSU's offense clicking, Coach Mullins's squad came out on top.

Game One Glenville State 10 West Liberty 3

West Liberty got on the board early jumping out to an early lead. After the bases were loaded with two outs, the Hilltoppers scored on a walk. With Balgo flying out to center field GSU stopped the bleeding. At the top of the second WLU made it 3-0. During the bottom half of the frame, the Pioneers quickly tied it back up.

Glenville started the inning with a hit-by-pitch and followed it up with back-to-back singles. Mathew Mangum's sacrifice fly to center field drove in the first run. While the Hilltoppers got another out on Chase Swain's fielder's choice, GSU produced another run. The tying run came from Fabian Escalante's hard-hit single to the right side of the field.

Austin Corn started to settle in for the Pioneers adjusting to the harsh conditions. Corn was able to give Glenville a solid four and two-thirds innings. The Lithia, Fla. native got accredited with the win since GSU took a 4-3 advantage in the bottom of the third. Nick Moore would come into relive during the fifth.

Glenville State had an explosive fifth inning to take a commanding lead. The Pioneers would bat through the lineup recording six of their ten hits. Matthew Mangum picked up his second RBI of the game with a walk. Chase Swain put two more runs on the board for GSU with a single to right center. Before a fly-out ended the frame, the Pioneers scored three more runs to make 10-3.

With Nick Moore closing out the contest, Glenville held on to take game one of the doubleheader.

Game Two Glenville State 5 West Liberty 3

Just as in the first game, the Hilltoppers struck first. With three walks and an error, the Pioneers found themselves in trouble early.  West Liberty got on the board with the back-to-back walks making a 2-0. Glenville's bats got going during the bottom of the third.  Before WLU was able to produce two outs it was tied 2-2. Fabian Escalante continued from where he left off in the first contest.  Escalante's single to right field gave the Pioneers the lead.

Glenville produced two more runs through the fifth and sixth inning. With GSU getting speed on the basses early, the Pioneers were able to advance them. Zach Morris picked up his second RBI of the contest during this stretch.

After struggling early, Diego Tamariz started to find his rhythm. Tamariz pitched six innings for Glenville while recording a season-high 11 strikeouts. Colby Howatineck was brought in the seventh to relieve Diego. The Hilltoppers would score a run in the top of the seventh but Howatineck still received the save.
