Glenville State Baseball Falls in First Half of Four-Game Series With West Virginia State

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Pioneers continued inter-division play against the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State. The bats of West Virginia State would torch the Pioneers producing nine hits. Game two proved to be a close one with it only being a one-run contest for six innings. The Yellow Jackets were able to extend its advantage late. 

Game One Glenville State 1 West Virginia State 9 

Glenville State jumped out to an early lead in game one. The Pioneers led off the inning with back-to-back walks. Fabian Escalante scored the contest's first run with a single through the right side. GSU still had runners on first or second but could not get another one across. 

Diego Tamariz got the start for Glenville end held the Yellow Jackets scoreless for three innings. Through the first three innings, Tamariz had only given up one hit.  WVSU's bats in the fourth started to catch fire. After a walk started off the inning, the Yellow Jackets had a two-run blast to take the lead.

Later on in the fifth frame West Virginia State continued to swing the momentum in their favor. While the Yellow Jackets did not hit a home run they took advantage of a couple of errors. In the fifth inning alone WVSU scored three unearned runs. Heading into the bottom of the half of the frame West Virginia State led 8-1.

The Pioneers throughout the last three innings could not get the bats going. Fabian Escalante had Glenville's lone single in the final innings. Before the end of the contest, the Yellow Jackets scored once more. 

Game Two Glenville State 0 West Virginia State 3

To start off the second game of the doubleheader West Virginia State got on the board first with a groundout to shortstop. The bases would be loaded after a single in the infield, an error, and a walk. However, the Pioneers Autsin Corn was able to get out of the jam. 

Throughout the next five innings, both sides would be held scoreless. Both starting pitchers were locked in a dual silencing each other's bats. GSU would face some adversity at the top of the sixth. After West Virginia State got on base with a single, they had a runner on second with a wild pitch. Corn once again came up big for the Pioneers striking out the next batter. 

West Virginia State in the final inning extended their lead. During the seventh frame, the Yellow Jackets hit two solo home runs making it 3-0. GSU had one more chance to mount a comeback. After WVSU got a quick out, the Pioneers had runners on first and second. During the next at-bat, Glenville hit into a double play ending the contest.
