A Look at Your Pioneers

Glenville is coming off a four-game set to West Virginia State where they went (1-3). Both Sunday's contests would go into extra innings. The Pioneers started off the afternoon with an 8-7 win. For the bullpen, it was a group effort with five different GSU pitchers making an appearance. Zac Bayor on the offensive end caused problems for WVSU. Baylor finished the game with a home run, two RBIs, and reached by a walk twice.

Throughout the season the Pioneers have had one of the top bullpens in the conference. GSU through 38 games has the third-lowest ERA in the MEC with a 5.51. Glenville's go-to arms during the 2023 campaign have been Chase Swain and Diego Tamariz. Swain and Tamariz combined have pitched 98 innings this season.

  • 4.02: Chase Swain sits fifth in the conference for ERA.
  • 17: Matthew Mangum ranks third in the MEC for stolen bases.
  • .216: The Pioneers Austin Corn has the third-best opposing batting average in the conference.

A Look at the Senators

Entering this weekend's action Davis and Elkins sit in fifth place in the South Division just two games back of GSU. However, the Senators are currently on a nine-game losing streak. Before the streak, Davis and Elkins had split a series with Frostburg State and swept Fairmont State. In their loss against Salem, the Senators gave up eight runs and 16 hits.

Throughout the 2023 campaign, Davis and Elkins have struggled defensively. The Senators have the second-highest ERA in the conference. D&E also has committed the most errors in the league with 82. However, the Senators sit just below the league average for team batting average.
