GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Baseball started their four-game home series with Senators of Davis and Elkins College this afternoon. The Pioneers were able to take the first two games sweeping Sunday's doubleheader. GSU still remains in the hunt for the final spot in the MEC Tournament.

The Pioneer's bats were on fire early and produced often. Glenville throughout the season has struggled on the offensive end. Through the first three innings, GSU built a three-run advantage. In the bottom of the first Zach Bayor led off the inning with a single to right field. After back-to-back singles by the Pioneers Calen Kampes scored the first run of the contest. Baylor once again produced for GSU in the second. Zach with a double down the line made it 2-0.

During the third inning, Glenville took control of game one. Returning to the lineup from injury  Zach Morris hit his second home run of the 2023 campaign. Kampes followed up the homer with a double down the right-field line. With a throw over the head of D&E's third baseman Calen reach home making it 4-0.

Chase Swain got the start for the Pioneers in the first half of today's doubleheader. The Ravenswood, W.Va. native pitched a complete game for GSU. In his seven innings of work, Swain stuck out six batters while only giving up two hits.

Later on in the sixth frame, Glenville doubled their four-run advantage. The Senators picked up two quick outs but Ryan Mangum gave GSU their first base runner of the inning with a double to the outfield. The Pioneers were able to load the bases with back-to-back walks. With bases full Glenville produced four runs with three of those coming from walks.

Just as in the first game the Pioneers were able to get on the board early. Zach Bayor led off the inning for GSU with a triple to center field. Zach Morris drove in Bayor on a groundout to second. During the next inning, Glenville doubled its advantage with Carlos De Jesus's solo home run to left field.

At the bottom of the third, the Pioneers continued to increase their lead. Mason Lohr was able to reach first on a hit by pitch giving GSU their first baserunner of the frame. After Bayor's groundout, Zach Morris drove in Lohr for his second RBI of the game. During Glenville's next at-bat, Fabian Escalante hit his fifth home run of the season to make it 5-0.

With Austin Corn on the mound, the Senators could not get anything going offensively. Corn went six innings while striking out eight and only gave up one walk. Before the end of the contest, the Pioneers would score once more. In the fifth inning Mason Lohr's speed allowed him to score on a double play making it 6-0.
