GSU Baseball Gears Up for Rematch With Salem University

GLENVILLE, WV – Glenville State is back on the road traveling to Frank Loria Memorial Field for a Wednesday afternoon, nine-inning game against the Salem University Tigers. This is the Pioneers' first non-conference game since March 7th, which was the last time they took on the Tigers.

A Look at Your Pioneers 
 
Glenville is coming off a long weekend going head-to-head against Davis and Elkins College in two doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. All 4 games were won by the Pioneers. In three of the contests the Pioneer's offense was clicking leading to dominate wins. Glenville is now at a record of 19-22, with hopes of improving it against the Tigers this Wednesday.  
 
Glenville has been climbing through the ranks this season as a team and individually. The Pioneers at times have struggled offensively but now have the seventh-best team batting average since the start of conference play. GSU's bullpen has remained persistent throughout the season posting a 5.27 ERA.  
 
Glenville by the Numbers 
  • .571:  With Zac Bayors recent form, he has been able to answer the call recently for the Pioneers and produce eight hits in the Davis and Elkins series. 
  • 3.57: Chase Swain currently sits fourth in the Mountain East Conference for ERA. 
  • 9: Julian Minaya set a new season high in strikeouts during his last outing. 
  • 0.474: Fabian Escalente is also sitting at sixth in the Mountain East Conference for on-base percentage. 
 
A Look at the Tigers 
 
Salem University is coming off a winning streak against two Mount East Conference schools, Alderson Broaddus and Davis and Elkins. The Tigers also went against Westchester, the #5 team in the latest D2SIDA pole, and took two of the three games. In the first meeting between these two squads, the Tigers pulled a convincing win from the Pioneers with a 12-0 shutout. 
 
The Salem University Tigers sit at 13th in the country for shutouts with five. Throughout the season the Tigers have been extremely effective at striking out their opponents. On average SU is producing 9.7 strikeouts per nine innings.

  • 4: Sam Schmitt is 11th in Division II for complete games  
  • 83: Sam Schmitt also holds the season high for strikeouts for the Tigers
