Baseball Recap Against Salem 2023

Game Recap: Baseball | | GSU Sports Information

Pioneer Baseball Falls on the Road to Salem University

NUTTER FORT, W.Va. - Glenville State Baseball closed out the non-conference portion of their schedule against Salem University. While the Pioneers would produce 13 strikeouts, the Tiger's bats were still able to score runs.

Through the first two innings, both sides would be held scoreless with each side's pitcher having a strong start. Diego Tamariz got the start for the Pioneers in this afternoon's contest. Tamriz in his three-and-a-third innings of work produced five strikeouts while only giving up two hits. After three innings GSU only found themselves trailing by one.

With a strong fourth inning, Salem took control of the contest. In the bottom half of the frame the Tigers made it a 6-0. A walk scored the first run of the bottom of the fourth but after that, a slew of singles did damage to Glenville. Heading into the top of the seventh Salem produced two more runs.

Glenville in the seventh frame started to claw into Salem's advantage. Getting his second hit of the day Fabian Escalante led off the inning with a double. Later on Chase Swain was able to drive Escalante in with a triple. With a runner still in scoring position, Mason Lohr scored another run shrinking SU's advantage down to six.

However, Salem quickly regained an eight-run lead in the bottom of the seventh. Before the end of the game the Pioneers scored once more. Ryan Rodriguez produced another triple for GSU. With a runner on third Zach Morris drove in a run with a groundout.

The Pioneers will be back in action this weekend against the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan.
