THE OPPONENTS
WEST VIRGINIA STATE
The Yellow Jackets enter (10-6, 6-3 MEC) and are winners of their last five games, including a 101-36 victory over Davis & Elkins last week. WVSU's (6-3) MEC record is tied for 3rd best in the league with Frostburg State and the Lady Pioneers.
Charles Marshall is in his eighth season as Head Coach of the Yellow Jackets. Prior to WVSU, Marshall spent three years as the HC at Glenville State. In his first year at GSU, Marshall led the Lady Pioneers to a 29-4 overall record, MEC regular season and tournament championships, and a #1 seed in the Atlantic Region tournament. Marshall was also an assistant at GSU for two seasons before being elevated.
Shelby Harmeyer is the only Yellow Jacket averaging double figures, scoring 10.9 PPG. Though Harmeyer is the only scorer above double digits, WVSU is averaging nearly 80 PPG as a team. Hannah Shriver has been consistent all year, leading the team in assists at 3.8 APG while averaging 6.5 PPG and 3.4 RPG. The rebounding efforts are being led by Emyah Fortenberry's 7.6 RPG.
CONCORD
The Mountain Lions come in (8-7, 5-4 MEC), splitting in last week's contest. Prior to Saturday's loss at Wheeling, CU had won three in a row.
Tesla Southcott is in her second season leading Concord WBB. In her first season leading the program, the Southcott-led Mountain Lions went (14-17, 9-13 MEC) and finished 7th in the MEC. They would go on a run in the MEC Tournament, winning their opening round game and upsetting #2 seeded West Virginia State in the quarterfinals before falling to Charleston in the semifinals. Prior to taking over, Southcott was an assistant under recently retired Kenny Osborne for eight seasons.
Jaisah Smith leads CU in scoring at 15.1 PPG, followed by Abbie Smith's 14.0 PPG and team leading 8.3 RPG. Former Lady Pioneer Skylar Davidson is third on the team in scoring with 9.0 PPG and leads the squad in assists at 4.7 APG and steals at 2.9 SPG.
THE LADY PIONEERS
