GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Women's Basketball team recorded their first home victory of the young season on Saturday afternoon inside the Waco Center, defeating Bluefield State, 77-70. The teams combined for 77 turnovers with the Big Blue being turned over 40 times.
GSU beat Bluefield State by seven, thanks to suffocating defense, compiling 18 steals in the game. The Lady Pioneers started slow but retook the lead by midway through the first quarter of play after Tynasia Bunting made a three and Jade Salters put in a layup. GSU would take a one-point lead into the second quarter but squandered the lead again after a Jayla Sample made three. GSU took a four-point lead (32-28) into the locker room after Jhakia Gist hit a shot from downtown and Stevi Yancy took a steal the other way for a layup.
The third quarter would see GSU control the action and take a nine-point lead when the period ended after Kenyah Stubbs swished a free-throw with the last score of the quarter. The Lady Pioneers had command of the fourth quarter early and went ahead by 15 points after a Ashlyn Riley jumper but BSU had a run in them as they cut the lead to just one with two minutes remaining after a Azaria Binford mid-range jumper. However, Bunting hit a clutch three with 16 seconds left to put the game on ice and the Lady Pioneers would secure the win, 77-70.

Bluefield State
Jayla Sample recorded 20 points to lead the Big Blue along with five boards and three steals. Jasmine Jenkins chipped in 17 points, five rebounds and four steals while Tianna Rhodes had 13 points, five rebounds and was 5-8 from the field.
Glenville State
Tynasia Bunting led the team in scoring with 13, shooting 75% from downtown while also collecting eight rebounds. Nwando Okigbo had 10 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Jade Salters and Kenyah Stubbs both had nine points, while Dream Cherry chipped in with seven.
