GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Men's Basketball team fell to Davis & Elkins tonight in the Waco Center 84-79 on the back of a furious comeback by the Senators late in the game. D&E outrebounded the Pioneers 52-46 and forced GSU into 17 turnovers.
A strong start from Jordan Turbo Smith and Devin Collins allowed the Pioneers to jump out to a 21-13 lead in the first nine minutes of the game. From there, D&E went on a 13-2 run to take the lead at 26-23 but the advantage wouldn't last long. Glenville retook the lead on a pair of layups from Prince Mosengo and James Franklin, holding the edge over the Senators for the remainder of the half. GSU went into the locker room leading 42-36.
Eight-straight unanswered points by the Pioneers forced D&E to call a timeout right out of halftime. After the lead grew to as much as 16 for the blue and white, Davis & Elkins stormed back to make it a five-point game. However, GSU quickly built their lead up to double digits (14) once again with nine minutes remaining. Davis & Elkins fought back once again, trailing by just two as the final minute began. A three on the wing by Vadim Clanet and free throws down the stretch allowed the Senators to leave the Waco Center with an 84-79 win.
