BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - The Glenville State Men's Basketball team used a 54% shooting day from the field to defeat West Virginia Wesleyan 79-69 on the road. GSU outrebounded the Bobcats 32-23 and shot 78% (21-27) from the free throw line in the win.
It was a hot start for the Bobcats, opening up the first seven minutes with a 21-13 advantage. After WVWC built their biggest lead of the game (nine), the Pioneers went on a 15-0 run, holding Wesleyan scoreless for over five minutes. GSU got up by as much as seven before closing out the first half with a 37-32 lead.
The Pioneers were held scoreless for nearly four minutes to start the new half as Jordan Turbo Smith got GSU out of the early 2nd half slump with a layup. WVWC retook the lead and held it until Devin Collins connected from deep to give the Pioneers a 51-50 lead with 10 minutes left in the game. From there, the blue and white wouldn't look back, hanging onto the lead for the remainder of the contest. Though the Bobcats made it a four-point game late, GSU eventually closed out the Bobcats 79-69.
The Final Stats
Trevor Chandler and Devin Collins both scored 18 points to lead the Pioneers. Dominiq Penn added 17 points and DiShon DD Daniels finished with 10 points to close out the double-digit scoring. Chandler led the rebounding efforts with six while Penn and Jordan Turbo Smith had six assists each in the win.
Alex Mirhosseini led all scorers with 19 points as he also led the Bobcats in assists with eight. Dieker Padrino finished with 16 points and both Anthony Craven Jr. and Curtis Litton had 10 points in the loss.
