THE PIONEERS
GLENVILLE STATE
Glenville State finished the 2023 campaign (22-26, 15-15 MEC), missing out on the MEC Tournament in a loaded Southern division.
James Mullins is in his 11th season leading the Pioneer Baseball program. Last season's (15-15) Mountain East Conference finish marked the first time in program history that the Pioneers posted consecutive records of .500 or better in conference play. The 2022 season is the best year in program history as the Mullins-led Pioneers won a program-high 35 games, advancing to the MEC Championship game. He also has a MEC Baseball Coach of the Year award to his name, winning it in 2015.
Diego Tamariz (6-4, 3.95 ERA) and Austin Corn (4-4, 3.96 ERA) headline the key pitchers returning as GSU was able to bring back two of their three main starters. A big bat is also back for the Pioneers in Fabian Escalante, who closed out the 2023 season leading the team in AVG (.350), hits (49), doubles (15), HR (8) and RBI (29).
